Varakapola Acting Magistrate Indrajith Amarasekara ordered a 59-year-old private tuition teacher, arrested in connection with the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old school girl, to be remanded until tomorrow (03). The person thus remanded is a father of one, residing in Nelundeniya, Dedigama area.
The victimized girl is a 15-year and 9-month-old student who is scheduled to sit for this year's G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination. The suspect teacher is not a government teacher and has been conducting tuition classes for science in the Dedigama area. The student in question did not attend the class held from 8 AM to 10 AM on the 29th, and after the class ended, the teacher called her home mobile phone several times.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect, after calling the girl, brought her to the hall where he conducts extra classes and subsequently sexually abused her. After the incident, the girl returned home and informed her mother, who immediately went to the teacher's house to inquire about the matter. It is reported that the suspect teacher admitted to the incident and begged for forgiveness in front of the girl's mother, asking her not to tell anyone about it.
Subsequently, investigations commenced based on a complaint made by the mother to the Children and Women's Bureau of the Dedigama Police that same night. The police took steps to admit the girl to Kegalle General Hospital for medical examinations and arrested the suspect at his home under the instructions of Dedigama Police OIC Chief Inspector Dammika Pathiraja. The arrest was carried out by Woman Sub-Inspector Chandrani, OIC of the Children and Women's Bureau, and Woman Police Sergeant Thakshila (6554).
The arrested suspect teacher was thus remanded after being produced in court by Dedigama Police Sergeant Kumara (72331). A significant fact revealed here is that the suspect's only daughter and the victimized girl are students studying in two different classes of the same grade at the same school.
