The full story behind the murder of a military officer over an illicit affair is revealed.

An ex-Air Force soldier has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the abduction and murder of a retired Army soldier, which was based on an illicit love affair. The suspect was arrested on August 8th for questioning regarding this alleged crime, which is said to have occurred about nine years ago.

The retired Army soldier who was thus murdered has been identified as Nishshanka Arachchi Appuhamilage Ambara Siri Nishshanka, a resident of Kirindiwela, Narangaspitiya area. Following his disappearance on September 9, 2018, information was received that the soldier was abducted, murdered, and his body was thrown into the Kuruwita River. Investigations have revealed that a woman is also involved in this crime.

The main suspect in this murder, a 47-year-old businessman, was arrested on June 9th in the Ranpokunagama area. He was apprehended with a foreign-made pen-shaped small firearm and a stock of live ammunition, and is currently being held under detention orders by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division for ongoing investigations.

According to information received during the relevant investigations, a team of officers including Sub-Inspector Piyal Dunusinghe went to the Urugasmanghandiya area to search for the suspect former Air Force soldier, but he had abandoned the area and fled. He was subsequently arrested in the Kuda Waskaduwa area on the Colombo-Galle main road, and at the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of 20 grams of cannabis.

During interrogations of the suspect former Air Force soldier, it was revealed that open warrants had been issued against him for failing to appear in cases related to printing counterfeit currency notes and extortion pending in the Embilipitiya and Avissawella High Courts. Furthermore, it was revealed that he had been sentenced to a fine of Rs. 15,000 and two years of rigorous imprisonment, and if he fails to pay the fine, he would be subjected to an additional three months of imprisonment with light labor.
