Murders in Tangalle, Anuradhapura and Galle

Three murder incidents have been reported on August 28, 2026, from the Tangalle, Anuradhapura, and Galle police divisions of the island.

A person who sustained serious injuries in an assault that occurred on the night of August 28 in the Mahagoda area, belonging to the Tangalle police division, died after being admitted to Tangalle Hospital. The deceased was a 35-year-old resident of the Mahagoda area. Preliminary investigations have revealed that this assault with a pole occurred after an argument between the deceased and his brother escalated. The 28-year-old suspect involved in the incident has been arrested, and Tangalle Police are conducting further investigations.

On the morning of the same day, a woman was murdered with a sharp weapon in the Korakahaweva tank reserve area in Anuradhapura. The victim of this attack was a 60-year-old woman residing in the Ulukkulama area. Investigations have revealed that the husband carried out this assault after an argument between the deceased woman and her husband escalated. After the incident, the suspect also inflicted injuries on himself and is currently receiving treatment at Anuradhapura Hospital. Anuradhapura Police are conducting further investigations into this matter.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old resident of Galle, who sustained serious injuries due to an assault with a sharp weapon during a clash between two groups on the night of August 28 in the Galwala area of Galle, died after being admitted to Galle Hospital. Two other individuals injured in this clash, which escalated due to an old grudge, have also been admitted to Galle Hospital. Two suspects, aged 19 and 29, residents of Walawwatta area, connected to this murder, have been arrested, and Galle Police are conducting further investigations.
