Minister of Power, Anura Karunatilake, has requested that all rooftop solar panel systems with a capacity exceeding 300 kilowatts be temporarily deactivated with the aim of safeguarding the stability of the national electricity grid during the long holiday period. This measure, which commenced on the 27th, will be in effect until the upcoming 30th, and the Minister states that solar panels should be kept deactivated during the period from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the specified days.

Especially during holidays, electricity consumption in large-scale factories and business establishments across the island significantly decreases, making a drop in national electricity demand a normal situation. In such a scenario, this temporary measure has been taken to protect the stability of the national electricity grid, and the national system operator has also requested the public to follow these instructions during the relevant period.
