
Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Siyapath Sasindu Wickramarathne ordered an immediate investigation and report on how the former Atamasthanadhipathi of Anuradhapura, Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, who is accused of severely sexually abusing a minor girl, entered the court complex premises. The order was given to the Chief Police Inspector, Officer-in-Charge of the Police Security Unit of the court complex

Dharmasiri.When the case was called on August 21st at the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court, Attorney Chanaka Abeywickrama, appearing on behalf of journalist Bimal Ruhunage, who lodged the initial complaint with the National Child Protection Authority, made a special submission. The lawyer pointed out to the court that the suspect Thero had entered the court premises in a luxury car through a special entrance reserved for judges, bypassing the main entrance where ordinary people are checked and allowed in.
The lawyer further emphasized that everyone is equal before the law, and the police should take responsibility for allowing the suspect Thero to enter the court with such special privileges, without any search. It was also alleged that the suspect Thero had previously entered through this special entrance in the vehicle of President's Counsel Kalinga Indratissa, who represents him.
Considering the submission, the Chief Magistrate immediately summoned the Officer-in-Charge of the Police Security Unit to open court and instructed him to investigate the incident and submit a report. The case related to this incident has been scheduled to be called again on January 08, 2027.
