2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level - University cut-off marks released

Following the release of the re-scrutiny results of the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, the University Grants Commission has announced the university admission cut-off marks (minimum Z-scores) for the 2025/2026 academic year.

This information has been made public through an official media release issued on July 31, 2026, under letter No. UGC/AD/06/(2025/2026), bearing the signature of Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, located at No. 20, Ward Place, Colombo 07.

A total of 281,810 candidates appeared for this year's Advanced Level examination, and among them, 176,570 students have met the basic qualifications for university admission. Furthermore, the number of students who have submitted applications for university admission is 92,051, out of which 41,746 students have been selected for university courses under general admission.

Considering the subject streams, the highest number of candidates appeared from the Arts stream, totaling 96,429. Of these, 58,272 students obtained basic qualifications, and out of 27,384 applicants, 11,417 students were selected. In the Commerce stream, 60,542 candidates appeared, and among the 14,842 who qualified and applied, 8,061 students were selected. Under the Biological Science stream, 56,955 students appeared for the examination, and out of the 21,756 who qualified and applied, 9,915 students gained university admission.

In the Physical Science stream, 37,665 candidates appeared, and among the 23,020 who obtained basic qualifications, 16,098 applied, and 7,268 students were selected. In the Engineering Technology stream, 22,036 students appeared, and 12,486 qualified, with 2,483 selected out of 5,792 applicants. In Biosystems Technology, 9,144 candidates appeared, and 6,042 qualified, with 1,479 students selected from the 3,486 applicants. Additionally, under other subject streams not belonging to the main streams mentioned, 8,417 students appeared, and among the 2,693 who qualified and applied, 1,123 students gained university admission.

Furthermore, arrangements have been made to introduce two new academic courses for the 2025/2026 academic year. Accordingly, a Geographic Information Systems course has been introduced for the University of Peradeniya with a proposed capacity of 50 students. An Electronic and Intelligent Systems Engineering course has also been introduced for the University of Ruhuna with the aim of admitting 50 students, bringing the total proposed number of students to be recruited for these two newly introduced courses to 100.
