Mrs. Punchage Kalumenika, a resident of Sangilikanadarawa, Rembawa, Anuradhapura, who was considered the oldest woman to have lived in Sri Lanka, has passed away. At the time of her death, she was 114 years old and will be remembered in history as a unique woman who enjoyed the longest lifespan in the country.




Mrs. Kalumenika, who was born on July 04, 1912, had recently undergone surgery due to a fall. She passed away while continuously receiving treatment for nearly two months thereafter.

She was a loving mother who gave birth to 12 children and had the rare fortune of seeing even the fifth generation during her lifetime. At the time of her death, she was the matriarch of a massive family lineage of over 325 people, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
