The Embilipitiya Headquarters Police state that the bodies of a couple, brutally murdered with an iron rod, were discovered inside a house in the Kirawalwelkatuwa area of Embilipitiya the day before yesterday (13) night. The police identified the deceased as Wanniarachchige Sarath (58) and Nammuni Arachchige Kanthi (54), a mother and father of two, residents of the Kirawalwelkatuwa area.




The Embilipitiya Headquarters Police state that the 25-year-old son, who is alleged to have committed the murder, was arrested on suspicion the same day. The police say that the arrested suspect son was residing in the house where the parents were murdered. The police also state that the father was a retired individual who had served in the army for over twenty years, and the son was severely addicted to drugs.

The police state that these parents had previously paid bail to release the suspect, who was remanded on charges of possessing cannabis and severely injuring someone's head by assaulting them.




The magisterial inquiry at the crime scene was conducted by Mr. Niroshan Gamage, the acting Magistrate of the Embilipitiya Magistrate's Court. Officers from the Embilipitiya Headquarters Police and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit police officers arrived and conducted investigations at the location.

The Magistrate then ordered the police to take the bodies of the two deceased to the Embilipitiya District General Hospital, refer them to a judicial medical officer there, conduct a post-mortem examination, and submit its report to the Embilipitiya Court on a future date. Following this order, police officers transported the bodies to the Embilipitiya Hospital. Further investigations are being carried out under the instructions of Embilipitiya Headquarters Police Inspector A.M. Bandara.
