Cabinet approval has been granted to award the contract for the project to expand the capacity of the Departure Passenger Terminal at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport to M/s Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. This decision was made based on a proposal submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation.

The main objective of this project is to expand passenger capacity and enhance facilities by developing infrastructure within the airport premises.

Under this development project, a new building is to be constructed, and arrangements have been made to install 36 new passenger screening counters within it. Additionally, six (06) new gates will be constructed under this project for direct access from the passenger terminal to aircraft. Cabinet approval for the implementation of the procurement process for this entire project was initially granted at the Cabinet meeting held on February 09, 2025.

With the aim of selecting the most suitable contractor for this, bids were invited under the International Competitive Bidding procedure, and three (03) bids were received. After a formal evaluation of these bids, based on the recommendations submitted by the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee, Maga Engineering was selected as the substantially responsive lowest bidder. Accordingly, the government has decided to award this contract to the said company for an amount of USD 7.26 million (excluding VAT) and LKR 3.77 billion.
