'Kalu Tushara's twenty-two-year-old son arrested with a firearm

The twenty-two-year-old son of 'Kalu Tushara', a drug trafficker and organized criminal who died in the first riot at Welikada Prison, has been arrested by the Western Province Southern Division Crimes Unit along with a firearm. The suspect was taken into police custody at his residence on Railway Avenue, Maharagama.




This raid was carried out based on a private tip received by Police Sergeant (40730) Dhanushya of the Western and Southern Division Crimes Unit. Accordingly, the police team that inspected the suspect's residence succeeded in finding a .38 revolver type firearm, without a serial number or country of manufacture, hidden inside a wardrobe in one of the rooms.

During questioning, the arrested suspect told the police that the firearm belonged to his deceased father. However, the police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the truthfulness of this statement made by the suspect, as well as whether this firearm has been used in any crime.




Police state that a case is currently being heard against this suspect in the Matara court for the offense of possessing a firearm, for which he was arrested about a year ago. Furthermore, several years ago, he, his mother, and others were arrested by the police in Dubai along with the notorious criminal 'Madush' and were later deported to Sri Lanka. The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court.
