The Egyptian team, set to face Argentina in the Round of 16, marked their first-ever World Cup knockout victory by winning their match against Australia via a penalty shootout. Both teams were vying for their first knockout win in this match, where Egypt managed to take the lead in the 13th minute. However, an own goal by Mohamed Hany in the second half allowed Australia to equalize. As the match remained 1-1 after extra time, the winner was decided by penalty kicks. Despite a thigh injury, Mohamed Salah, who played the entire match, managed to execute a skillful Panenka shot. The Australian team missed two penalty kicks, and with Hosam Abdelmaguid's winning shot, Egypt won the shootout 4-2. After the match, Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah expressed his immense happiness at being able to give his best for the country and for the team's historic victory.

On the other hand, Colombia, who defeated the Ghana team 1-0, managed to secure the final spot in the Round of 16.

In the 14th minute of the match, Jhon Lucumí secured this victory for Colombia by successfully converting a cross from Luis Díaz into a goal. Throughout the entire match, the Ghana team was unable to make a single successful shot on target towards the Colombian goal. Colombian fans, celebrating their team's victory at the Kansas City Stadium, were overjoyed. Colombia, who has not lost any match in this World Cup tournament so far, has conceded only one goal to their opponents. With this victory, they are scheduled to face Switzerland in Vancouver. Colombia is also the fourth South American team to qualify for the Round of 16, after Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. Additionally, a World Cup match between Canada and Morocco is scheduled for the upcoming Saturday.
