Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara has taken steps to expedite the summoning of the Government Analyst's report regarding the unidentified types of drugs found at the location where former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena passed away. Accordingly, the Magistrate yesterday (8th) sent a special reminder to the Government Analyst, instructing to submit the relevant report to the court expeditiously.
Officials from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) stated before the court that no report has yet been received from the Government Analyst's Department regarding the unidentified drugs found in a room at the residence of former veteran cricketer Aravinda de Silva. After considering these facts, the Magistrate issued this order.
Furthermore, officials from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) further informed the court that the post-mortem report related to the deceased has also not yet been received by them. Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered that a reminder letter be issued to the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer's office, instructing them to submit the post-mortem report immediately. The relevant case was also scheduled to be recalled on the 22nd of this month to review the progress of these investigations.
The court had ordered the release on bail of Mr. Kapila Chandrasena, who was remanded on charges of accepting a bribe of 2 million US dollars in a deal to purchase Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines, on May 6, 2026. However, due to issues that arose regarding the sureties, an order was issued on May 7 to re-arrest him, and on the following day, May 8, he was found deceased in a room at the residence of former veteran cricketer Aravinda de Silva, located in the Kollupitiya area.
