Chile convicted after 12 years

The Kaduwela Magistrate's Court has ruled that popular singer Thilanka Vidoosha, also known as "Chili," is guilty, concluding a case that had been ongoing against him for several years. He was found guilty of all four charges: obstructing the duties of police officers who came to his home in Talangama for a dengue prevention inspection in 2014, criminal intimidation, attempted assault, and threatening.

According to this verdict announced by Kaduwela Magistrate Aruna Indrajith Buddadasa, a fine of Rs. 1,500 was imposed for each of the four charges. Additionally, the court ordered a compensation payment of Rs. 10,000 each to the two police officers who were aggrieved and intimidated by the incident.

Since the two police officers concerned were not present in court when the verdict was delivered, the Magistrate further ordered that the stipulated compensation amount be deposited with the court. Accordingly, the proceedings of this case, which had been ongoing for several years since 2014, have now been fully concluded.

In addition to this incident, the singer was also arrested in 2016 for assaulting an elderly neighbor. After an incident where he assaulted an elderly neighbor in the Pelawatta, Battaramulla area where he resides, he went into hiding and later surrendered to the Talangama Police. When he received that punishment and was on the prison bus, with television cameras pointed at him, he stated:

"I haven't killed anyone.. I haven't wronged anyone.. If someone tries to lay a hand on my mother, I'll hit them, that's how it is.."
