Child thrown from overturned motorcycle hit by car

Welikaada Police report that a three-year-old boy, who was traveling with his parents on a motorcycle, was killed in a fatal road accident when he was thrown from the motorcycle and hit by an oncoming car. The accident occurred on the morning of the 25th at Ambagaha Junction, Rajagiriya, and the unfortunate child who died was I.

They faced this accident while traveling back to their home on President's College Avenue, Polwatta, Rajagiriya, after visiting a relative's house. On the Buthgamuwa road, the motorcycle overturned to the left side of the road due to the rider's inability to control its speed. The father, who was riding, and the mother, who was on the pillion seat, fell to the left side of the road. At that moment, the small child, who was standing in front of the rider's seat, was thrown to the right side of the road and was caught under the front right wheel of an oncoming car.

Although steps were immediately taken to admit the seriously injured child to IDH Hospital, he died within a few minutes. Police state that the child's parents did not sustain any injuries in the accident. A 36-year-old resident of Kotikawatta, Mahabuthgamuwa area, who was driving the car negligently, has been arrested by the police. Furthermore, investigations have revealed that the negligent riding of the deceased child's father, who was driving the motorcycle, also contributed to the accident, and he is also expected to be arrested.
