Anuradhapura detainee attempted suicide

Anuradhapura Police state that an inmate detained at Anuradhapura Prison has been admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital in a serious condition after attempting suicide. The individual hospitalized is a 35-year-old resident of the Thrippane area.

He was imprisoned about two months ago on a court order related to a charge of possessing heroin. On the 28th, this inmate attempted to hang himself using a rope made from pieces of cloth inside the prison toilet.

At that moment, other inmates immediately informed prison officials, and subsequently, the inmate was rescued and steps were taken to hospitalize him for treatment. The reason why he attempted suicide has not yet been confirmed, and Anuradhapura Police and prison authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident.
