An African national woman who arrived in the country with a stock of cocaine drugs, worth nearly four crore rupees, prepared as pellets and ingested, was arrested by officers of the Customs Drug Control Division on the night of the 17th. The person arrested is a 54-year-old teacher residing in Angola.

She has stated to the investigating officers that she is an HIV (HIV) infected person.

This suspect, who has an obese body, attempted to bypass Katunayake Airport inspections and exit with the aid of a wheelchair. Swallowing nearly 50 capsules containing cocaine, she had arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from Angola, and later reached Doha, Qatar. Investigations revealed that she then arrived at Katunayake Airport around 6:30 PM on that day, on Qatar Airways flight QR-654.

The arrested suspect stated to Customs that she is an HIV (HIV) infected person. Customs officers arranged to hand her over to the officers of the Katunayake Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations. Subsequently, steps were taken to immediately admit her to Negombo General Hospital with the aim of extracting the drug capsules from her stomach.

Following treatment after hospitalization, doctors have successfully extracted 50 cocaine capsules from her body by the morning of the 19th. It has also been revealed that her story of having AIDS was false. However, subsequent X-ray and scan tests have confirmed that several more drug capsules remain in her stomach. The medical team at Negombo Hospital is continuing their efforts to extract the remaining capsules from her body by administering laxatives to the suspect.
