A person who defrauded millions of rupees by claiming to build houses was arrested in Nugegoda.

A person from an institution in the Nugegoda area, who is said to have defrauded over two crore rupees from various individuals by promising to build houses, was arrested by the Mirihana Special Crimes Investigation Bureau on the 8th. It is reported that 10 complaints have already been received by the police against this 53-year-old suspect, a resident of the Ragama area.




Investigations have revealed that the suspect defrauded money by taking twenty thousand and thirty thousand rupees from individuals, promising to build houses. This large-scale financial fraud was carried out in collaboration with another person, and the Special Crimes Investigation Bureau has launched a comprehensive investigation to arrest the other suspect involved.

The police urge the public to immediately lodge a complaint at the Mirihana Police Station or provide information via telephone number 011-2852556 if there are other victims of this fraud. Meanwhile, the arrested suspect was produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court and ordered to be remanded until the 16th of this month.




Further investigations into this incident are being carried out under the direct supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Mangala Dehideniya, who is in charge of the Nugegoda Division. Accordingly, Sub-Inspector Wickramasinghe, Police Constables Sandaruwan (94956), and Nadeeranga (102980) of the Mirihana Special Crimes Investigation Bureau are conducting further inquiries into this matter.
