A firearm found during dengue field inspection in Battaramulla

During a special premises inspection conducted in the Pelawatta area of Battaramulla, coinciding with the National Dengue Control Program, a live firearm was discovered along with live mosquito larvae in a house that was maintained in an unsanitary condition by the inspection teams.

Public health inspectors from the Battaramulla Medical Officer of Health office carried out this joint operation with the support of the Sri Lanka Police, Army, Air Force, and the Red Cross organization.

This firearm was found during the search of the aforementioned house, which was maintained in a very unhygienic condition with a large number of dogs, and subsequently, the police took it into custody and arrested the female homeowner.

Additionally, during the inspection of another premises where live mosquito larvae were present, a heated discussion arose between the two parties due to the owner obstructing the officers' duties.

Steps have been taken to file cases against 13 individuals who maintained premises with mosquito larvae at the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court, and health authorities further urge the public to immediately destroy dengue mosquito breeding sites and provide necessary support to control officers.
