Horana Headquarters Police have launched an investigation into an incident where nearly 500 safety helmets, entrusted by people who came to watch a music concert held at the Horana Public Stadium, went missing at once. Over 70 complaints have already been received by the police from individuals affected by the incident.
The crowd who came to watch the concert had deposited their motorcycle helmets with a woman outside the stadium, who was charging a fee for accepting them, and then entered. However, it has been revealed that when they returned to collect their helmets after the concert, the vast majority of the helmets at that location were missing.
In connection with the incident, the woman working at the Horana weekly fair who had taken custody of the helmets has been arrested, and the police are taking steps to present her before the court. A comprehensive investigation is underway, utilizing security camera footage and other evidence, to determine whether these helmets were stolen by a group of people who had consumed alcohol during the concert, or if they disappeared through some other means.
Further investigations into this incident are being conducted under the full supervision of Horana Headquarters Police Inspector Mr. Ranga Perera, and led by Mr. Parakrama Gunaratne, the OIC of the Various Complaints Division.
