A tragic road accident has been reported today (21) afternoon near the Arachchikattuwa Sengaloya bridge, where a car veered off the road and collided with a nearby shop, resulting in the shop owner's death at the scene.

The person who tragically died in this accident has been identified as Ramasamy Govindasamy, a resident of the Arachchikattuwa area. Information indicates that the car, which was traveling at an extremely high speed from Mannar to Dankotuwa, went out of the driver's control, veered off the road, and crashed into the shop.

Eyewitnesses state that three individuals were traveling in the car at the time of the accident, and they were heavily under the influence of alcohol. Due to the sudden death of the shop owner and the intoxicated behavior of the occupants of the car, enraged residents gathered at that moment and assaulted all three individuals who were in the vehicle.

The three individuals who sustained injuries from the assault by the residents have now been admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital for medical treatment. All further legal actions and investigations related to this incident are currently being carried out by the Arachchikattuwa Police.
