A 35-year-old Iranian refugee, who argued that he was unable to commit a sexual assault due to his physical disabilities, was recently convicted by a London court for attempting to sexually assault a woman. The man, identified as Hossein Mahmoudi, had tried to evade the charges by claiming that he had a penis too small for sexual intercourse and that he suffered from severe obesity.

He followed a woman for about three miles from Whitechapel to Stratford as she was returning home from a Christmas party in 2024. He pursued her for about an hour, even boarding the bus she was on, and then attacked her on a side street. However, due to the swift intervention of a cyclist, the attack was thwarted within a short period of 27 seconds, and the victim stated that the cyclist had saved her.

The case was heard at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where prosecutor Christian Moll informed the court that the man had left Iran in 2014, illegally entered Turkey, Greece, Germany, and France, and subsequently arrived in Britain. He had previously been sentenced to 10 months in prison for driving a small boat carrying migrants to Britain. Furthermore, it was revealed that he had been convicted five times in Germany for assaults and criminal damage, and there had been police complaints about him following a woman walking with her dog.

David Harunoff, the defense lawyer, argued in court that due to his client's medical conditions, an attempted rape could not have occurred within a short period of 27 seconds. He also stated that his client had a low sex drive due to smoking, depression, and obesity. However, Dr. George Fowles, a specialist urologist, testified and confirmed that the defendant's sexual organ was in a normal condition. The defendant admitted to browsing a pornography website the day before the attack, claiming it was only to improve his English language skills. Additionally, an email related to his application to donate sperm to a sperm bank was revealed in court, and his sentence is expected to be announced next month.
