Horana's fake lady doctor caught

A woman who defrauded nearly six crore rupees by falsely posing as a local and Western doctor has been arrested by the Horana Special Crimes Investigation Unit. Investigations have revealed that she defrauded this massive amount from various individuals, claiming that money was needed to release a consignment of medicines imported into the country from foreign countries from the Colombo Port.




The suspect, who was taken into police custody, is an unmarried woman aged 53, who initially resided in the Giribawa area and later in a housing complex in the Horana area. Posing as a doctor, she provided various types of medicines to the public, and police investigations have revealed that these medicines were unapproved for use in the country and were substandard.

She also conducted clinics in various areas, claiming to be a doctor, and collected money from the public. Currently, several individuals from Gampaha, Madurawala, Bandaragama, Horana, Ingiriya, and Millaniya, who were deceived by her and lost money, have lodged complaints with the police, and the police state that more such complaints are being received.




The police have also launched a special investigation into whether the suspect received assistance from another doctor for these fraudulent activities. The suspect even used a vehicle with a medical emblem to establish her identity. However, inquiries made by the police to the Sri Lanka Medical Council and the Ayurvedic Medical Council regarding her professional qualifications have confirmed that she is not registered with any medical council.

As the police commenced investigations into the matter, the suspect attempted to obtain anticipated bail from the court, but it was rejected. Subsequently, investigations revealed that she had been hiding for a period, changing various vehicles to evade police custody. The suspect, thus arrested, was scheduled to be produced before the court.
