Lawyer Rakitha Rajapaksa, son of former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and Charith Abeysinghe, who serves as the Samagi Jana Balawegaya's Horana electorate organizer, have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. It is reported that this arrest was made based on an incident that arose concerning the detention of Nadun Chinthaka, also known as 'Harak Kata', an organized crime gang leader.

Several charges have been leveled against the suspects, including the receipt of 120 million rupees with the intention of bribing officers of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that these two suspects received the said amount from the side of the underworld gang leader known as 'Harak Kata'. It is suspected that these funds were planned to be given as bribes to influence Criminal Investigation Department officials to change the existing detention orders issued under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, consider him a regular prisoner, and transfer him to another prison. Furthermore, information has been revealed that this money transaction also took place with the aim of preventing the murder of the said suspect and securing his release from detention.

Numerous local media reports have confirmed this arrest, and significant attention has been drawn to the arrested individuals' connections with organized criminals and the underworld. However, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has not yet issued an official public statement or detailed information to the media regarding these arrests and the specific charges filed.
