Hungama Police stated that the bodies of three school students who went missing after being caught in a strong current while swimming for recreation at the Kalametiya beach in Hungama on the last Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, the 30th, were found washed ashore on the morning of the 31st.




The victims of this tragic fate are three children aged 12, 17, and 18, residing in the Hungama Thuduwa area. Two of them are brothers from the same family, identified as 17-year-old R. P. Ashan Dulanjana and 12-year-old R. P. Thushan Dilusha, residents of No. 84/A, Hungama Thuduwa. The other deceased student is 18-year-old W. G. Pasindu Heshan, a resident of No. 104/1, Hungama Thuduwa.

All three of these students were studying in grades 7, 12, and 13 at Hungama Vijayaba National School. Police investigations revealed that another young man was also swimming with these three at the time of the incident, but he managed to escape the strong current and survive.




Immediately after the incident, Hungama Police, officers from the Tangalle Naval Base, the Tangalle Police Lifesaving Unit, and local residents launched a massive search operation to find the missing students. However, they could not be found at that time, and as a result of subsequent operations, the bodies were found washed ashore on the morning of the 31st.
