The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested three special individuals on June 25, 2026. This group was arrested on the charge of soliciting a bribe of 5,000 lakhs (500 million) rupees, subsequently reducing the amount to 2,000 lakhs (200 million) rupees, and then soliciting and obtaining 1,200 lakhs (120 million) rupees as an advance bribe from that amount.

This bribe transaction occurred to protect the life of Nadun Chinthaka Wickramarathna, also known as "Harak Kata," an organized criminal held under detention orders by the Criminal Investigation Department, and to prevent his assassination. Furthermore, this money was demanded in exchange for removing the suspect's detention orders, transferring him from Galle Boossa High-Security Prison to another prison, and releasing him from investigations and related proceedings. Investigations have revealed that this bribe was demanded from the suspect's wife, Madushika Maduwanthi, in Dubai in 2023.

Those arrested on this large-scale bribery charge are Attorney Rabin Nirmal Rajapaksa, son of former Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs, and Constitutional Reforms, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and Charitha Wasantha Kumara Abeysinghe, who serves as the Horana electorate organizer for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya. In addition to them, Warushahannadige Aruna Sri Chathuranga, who served as a former director of the Civil Aviation Authority and SriLankan Catering (SriLankan Airlines company), has also been arrested by the Bribery Commission.

The Media Unit of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption states that these three suspects arrested today are scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court in due course.
