A special tip-off was received by the Seeduwa Police Station on the evening of the day before yesterday (20), due to an unusually strong foul odor emanating from a house located in the Mukkalangamuwa, Piyasamara area, which falls under the Seeduwa Police Division. Accordingly, a team of police officers immediately responded and went to the said house to conduct a search, where they succeeded in discovering the body of an elderly woman meticulously hidden inside a travel bag in one of the bedrooms.
The person who was brutally murdered in this manner is a 79-year-old woman named Girly Chandrani, who resided in that house.During initial observations regarding the death of this woman, who had been living alone in that house for a long time, the police suspect it to be a highly organized and premeditated crime. The criminals had dismantled and removed the CCTV security camera system installed in the house, and investigating officers discovered that the house's telephone lines had also been cut to disrupt communication. Negombo Acting Magistrate Mr. Indika Silva and the Government Medical Officer visited the scene to conduct preliminary investigations and the magisterial inquiry.
Following swift and extensive investigations conducted by the Seeduwa Police regarding this heinous crime, a 42-year-old man who had come to the house for maintenance work has been arrested on suspicion. Police interrogations revealed that the arrested suspect is severely addicted to drugs. It has been further revealed during preliminary investigations that this brutal murder was committed with the intention of robbing valuable gold jewelry belonging to the deceased elderly woman, and thereafter, the body was placed in a travel bag and hidden in the room with the aim of concealing evidence. Officers of the Seeduwa Police Station have vigorously launched further investigations into this murder and robbery.
