The specialist doctor, caught in the nurse's love trap, paid a ransom of 6.5 million.

A nurse and her husband have been arrested in connection with an incident where a specialist doctor, working in private practice at a major medical center in Kandy, was threatened and over 6 million rupees was extorted from him. Police have identified the suspect as a former nurse who also worked at the same medical center.

According to police investigations, it has been revealed that there was a very close relationship between this 24-year-old nurse and the victim specialist doctor for some time. Later, after she resigned from her job and got married, she moved to the Medamahanuwara area, and thereafter, involving her husband, initiated this extortion process.

Claiming to possess photographs of intimate moments spent with the doctor, the suspect and her husband threatened the doctor and obtained money on several occasions. Deeply distressed by these continuous threats, the doctor had taken steps to lodge a complaint with the Teldeniya Divisional Children and Women's Bureau regarding the matter. Acting on that complaint, officers of the bureau arrested the suspect couple.
