
A 27-year-old monk, accused of severely sexually abusing a 17-year-old novice monk residing in an old temple in the Dompe area, has been arrested by the Dompe Police. Following his appearance before the Pugoda Magistrate's Court, the suspect has been ordered to be remanded until the 15th of this month.
Police investigations have revealed that the suspect monk had been severely sexually abusing the novice monk for a long period. Due to this incident, the victimized novice monk was admitted to the Gampaha Government Hospital for treatment.
Further examination of information regarding the arrested suspect has revealed that he previously faced sexual abuse charges, with ongoing trials in the Gampaha and Kalutara Magistrate's Courts. Police also state that medical reports confirm he is severely addicted to drug use.
The 17-year-old monk, who was severely abused, was scheduled to be produced before the Pugoda Magistrate's Court yesterday (11) to be placed under safe and suitable guardianship.
Under the direction of Dompe Police Station OIC Chief Inspector Samantha Perera, Sub-Inspector Abeyratne, Women's Sub-Inspector Anusha Dharmasena (OIC of the Children and Women's Bureau), and Police Sergeant Susantha (69428) of the Case Operations Division are conducting further investigations into this matter.
