A report states that a person, previously named as a main suspect in a triple murder in the Ambalantota area and released on bail by the court, has been brutally murdered. This murder occurred on the night of May 11th, and the police found the victim's severed head placed near the statue of Queen Rathnavali at the Mamadala junction.
One person has been arrested by the Ambalantota Police yesterday (12) on suspicion of this heinous crime. The person thus murdered is a 39-year-old married man named Weerasekara Arachchige Lakmal Sandaruwan, also known by the alias 'Podie', who resided in Mamadala Yaya 11, Ambalantota. Last Monday night, while he was at his home, a group of three individuals armed with firearms and machetes broke into the house and launched this attack. Sandaruwan was shot and then hacked with machetes, severing his head, and his father-in-law (his wife's father), who sustained serious injuries in the incident, has also been hospitalized.
Police confirm that Lakmal Sandaruwan, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, died after being admitted to the Galle National Hospital. Investigations revealed that his severed head, taken by the suspects, was placed near a statue at a junction about a hundred meters from his home, and then they fled. The Ambalantota Police have currently launched a special operation under the guidance of senior police officers to arrest two other individuals identified as being connected to this incident.
The deceased Lakmal Sandaruwan was accused of being directly involved in the murder of three individuals on February 02, 2025, in the Bavinayanwala area, Mamadala East, Ambalantota. H.A.P. Indika (29), M.W. Mallawaarachchi (34), and H.K.R. Priyadarshana (45) were murdered in that incident, and the police suspect that this latest murder may have been carried out as an act of revenge for that triple murder.
