Five students have been injured in a sharp weapon attack carried out this morning by another student from the same school, targeting a group of Advanced Level students in a main government school located in Eppawala town. The students injured in this unexpected attack have been promptly admitted to the Eppawala Divisional Hospital, where they are currently receiving inpatient treatment.
The five students admitted to the hospital after being attacked are students studying in the 12th grade Advanced Level Technology stream of the said school. According to police investigations, it has been identified that the attack was carried out by a student studying in the 12th grade Science stream of the same school, and a dispute that occurred a few days ago between the suspect student and one of the injured students has led to this violent act.
Driven by a desire for revenge due to a previous grudge, the student arrived at the school premises this morning carrying a sharp weapon, where he attempted to assault one student. It is reported that at that moment, the other four students who intervened to prevent the attack and save their friend were also attacked and injured with the sharp weapon by the suspect student.
Eppawala Police, who immediately responded to the incident, have arrested the suspect student along with the small knife used in the attack, and further legal action is expected to be taken against him. Hospital sources state that the condition of all five injured students is not serious and they are currently under medical supervision. Eppawala Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
