The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team managed to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) championship for the second consecutive time. Having been champions for the first time last year, they recorded this historic victory by defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) team by 5 wickets at India's largest cricket stadium this time.

With this victory, RCB captain Rajat Patidar joined the exclusive list of captains who have won two consecutive IPL championships, after M.S. Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Although the Gujarat team had the home ground advantage in Ahmedabad, they had to accept defeat in the face of excellent bowling and a magnificent batting performance by Virat Kohli.

Captain Rajat Patidar, who won the toss, decided to bowl first, and his fast bowlers justified that decision perfectly. By the end of the Powerplay, Gujarat's scoreboard read 45 runs for 2 wickets. Shubman Gill was dismissed at mid-on off Josh Hazlewood's delivery, and Sai Sudharsan was caught by wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's ball. Subsequently, the Gujarat innings suffered a severe setback, and they were unable to hit a four or a six for 35 balls after the Powerplay. Nishant Sindhu, who had scored 20 runs, was dismissed off Rasik Salam's ball, and Krunal Pandya sent Jos Buttler back to the pavilion with his excellent bowling.

However, in the 13th over, Arshad Khan hit the first six of the innings, but he too was dismissed off Hazlewood's ball. In the 16th over, Rahul Tewatia fell victim to Rasik Salam, and Jason Holder's wicket was taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But Washington Sundar added some life to the Gujarat innings, scoring an unbeaten 50 runs off 37 balls. Thus, at the end of the allotted 20 overs, the Gujarat Titans team scored 155 runs for 8 wickets. In bowling, Rasik Dar took 3 wickets for 27 runs and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2 wickets for 29 runs.

Chasing a winning target of 156 runs, the RCB team got off to a strong start. Notably, Virat Kohli hit a massive six over the mid-wicket region off Kagiso Rabada's delivery, which came at a speed of 155 km/h. Despite suffering a knee injury, Venkatesh Iyer also scored 18 runs against Rabada, and at the end of 4 overs, RCB was at 55 runs without losing a wicket. Although Venkatesh and Devdutt Padikkal were dismissed quickly, they were in a strong position with 70 runs for 2 wickets by the end of the Powerplay.

Although Rajat Patidar maintained the scoring rate by hitting boundaries against Mohammed Siraj and Jason Holder, Rashid Khan brought a turning point to the match. In his only over, Rajat Patidar was caught by Rabada, and Krunal Pandya was dismissed leg before wicket. Rashid Khan took 2 wickets for 25 runs. However, Virat Kohli, who has played the most IPL matches, carried the innings forward by scoring his fastest IPL fifty off 25 balls, despite an injury. Kohli built a 41-run partnership with Tim David and scored an unbeaten 75 runs off 42 balls. The Gujarat team tried to change the game by bringing in impact player Prasidh Krishna, but it was unsuccessful. After a catch taken by Shubman Gill was overturned by video review, Kohli hit a massive six over the long-on region at the end of the 18th over, completing 161 runs in the match and securing a 5-wicket victory for the RCB team and their second championship.
