Pregnant Grama Niladhari dies in Anuradhapura accident

A pregnant Grama Niladhari (village officer) who was hospitalized and receiving treatment for serious injuries sustained in a severe road accident on the Anuradhapura, Airport Road, unfortunately passed away on the 27th. The person who died in this accident, which occurred in the Kavarakkulama police division, was R.M., a resident of Anuradhapura, 3rd Stage, No. 26/40.

Bhagya Nilupuli Wadugodapitiya, a 32-year-old woman. She was attached to the Central Nuwaragam Palatha Divisional Secretariat and served as the Grama Niladhari for the Mahabulankulama 283 Thulana area.




According to police reports, the accident occurred on the 18th. The deceased Grama Niladhari was riding her motorcycle towards Anuradhapura from Kavarakkulama, with another person on the pillion seat, when a light truck approaching from behind collided with their motorcycle. The motorcyclist and the pillion rider, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, were immediately admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The Grama Niladhari passed away while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. A hospital spokesperson confirmed that her unborn child also died while she was hospitalized.

The driver of the light truck has been arrested by Kavarakkulama Police in connection with this fatal road accident. The arrested individual is a 27-year-old resident of Kurundankulama area, Mihintale Road, Anuradhapura. A team of officers from the Kavarakkulama Police Traffic Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
