The police have decided to record a statement from Member of Parliament, lawyer Udaya Gammanpila, on the charge of making a statement misleading the public regarding the demise of Mr. Ranga Nishantha Rajapaksa, Assistant Director of the Department of External Resources at the Ministry of Finance. Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Udaya Kumara Wuttler, revealed this while participating in a press conference held yesterday (05) at the Government Information Department.

The police also plan to summon Mr. Gammanpila for the inquest into this death, which is ongoing at the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate's Court, and record his testimony. The Police Media Spokesperson strongly emphasized that issuing statements that obstruct investigations into the death of the Ministry of Finance official and mislead the judicial process is absolutely inappropriate.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Superintendent of Police also stated that the deceased Assistant Director's wife has not yet lodged any complaint with the police regarding any suspicion surrounding his demise. However, the Criminal Investigation Department has already commenced investigations into the death, and a motor vehicle, mobile phones, bank cards, and several other files used by the deceased have been taken into police custody for further examination. The Police Media Spokesperson further stated that detailed information regarding the future progress of these investigations would be provided later.
