The Cabinet has decided to grant permanent appointments this month to nearly ten thousand employees who were recruited to the public service on a temporary, casual, or contract basis before the year 2009.

The Ministry of Public Administration has already issued a special circular to ministries, provincial councils, government departments, and statutory boards regarding this new appointment process.

Due to the severe economic crisis that prevailed in the country over the past few years, the government was unable to make these employees' jobs permanent. However, authorities point out that since the economic situation is gradually improving, it has been decided to include them in the permanent public service.

The relevant Ministry circular has also given strict instructions for streamlining future recruitments, emphasizing that no person who does not meet the essential qualifications should be recruited to the public service in the future.

Furthermore, the relevant authorities and officials must ensure that new recruitments do not exceed the approved number of employees for each institution.

The circular further states that in instances where these government instructions are violated, the relevant authority or official will be personally responsible for such actions.
