Parts of another 245 bodies found from Chemmani mass grave excavations

During the sixth phase of excavations at the mass grave located near the Sittupattu cemetery in Chemmani area, Jaffna, skeletal remains belonging to 246 individuals have so far been identified. Jaffna Magistrate S.

The sixth day of these excavation activities, operating under the full supervision of Mr. Lenin Kumar, was yesterday (04), and several more skeletal remains were found.




Officials in charge of the excavation work state that out of the 246 bodies identified from the site so far, skeletal remains belonging to 243 bodies have been completely exhumed. Although the work was temporarily halted last Sunday, this latest progress has been reported with the resumption of activities yesterday (04).

Investigators have also observed a suspicious black soil area within the excavation site, and soil samples have been taken for scientific confirmation and sent for further investigation. Furthermore, special investigations are currently underway regarding several other suspicious remains found during the excavations, and officials expect to reveal specific information about them in the future.
