The mysterious death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, who was crowned Miss Pune in 2012 and was also an actress and model, has caused a great stir across India these days. She died on May 12 at her husband's house in Katara Hills, Bhopal, and her death, which occurred within a short period of five months of marriage, has sparked intense public discussion about whether it was a case of domestic violence due to dowry.

Twisha, a resident of Noida, was a postgraduate in Business Management and also worked as a marketing professional. She appeared in various advertisements and also contributed her acting skills to a Telugu film and Prime Video productions. In 2024, she met Samarth Singh, a lawyer from Bhopal, through a dating app, and they later got married in December 2025.

According to her father, Navnidhi Sharma, Twisha last spoke to them around 9:41 PM on May 12. While she was talking to her mother via WhatsApp, the call suddenly disconnected, and about 20 minutes later, her mother-in-law answered the phone, stating that Twisha had passed away. She was found hanging from a rope on a gymnastic ring on the terrace of the house around 10:26 PM that night, and her death was officially declared after midnight on May 13.

Although post-mortem reports conducted at AIIMS Hospital in Bhopal confirmed that this was a death by strangulation, marks found on her body have raised serious doubts about the death. Injury marks and scratches, suspected to be caused by assault, were found on her neck, hands, wrists, fingers, and scalp. Furthermore, the initial failure to present the rope or belt, which allegedly caused the death, for examination has been pointed out as a major weakness in the police investigation.

Twisha's family members allege that her husband and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, subjected Twisha to severe mental and physical torture, demanding dowry. They further allege that after she became pregnant last April, she was forced to undergo an abortion in the first week of May, with accusations regarding the child's paternity. Several WhatsApp messages, allegedly sent by Twisha saying, "My life has become hell," have also been released to the media. Her family has refused to cremate her body until justice is served, and her body is currently kept in the morgue at -4 degrees Celsius, as they demand an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

However, Twisha's mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, denies all these allegations. She states that Twisha suffered from mental health problems, including schizophrenia, and that the abortion was done with her own consent. She also claimed to have financially assisted them. However, a controversial audio recording, allegedly made by Giribala Singh, questioning Twisha's past relationships and character, has now surfaced online.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been appointed in connection with this incident, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the husband and mother-in-law on charges of dowry death and harassment. The husband, Samarth Singh, has currently absconded from the area, and a reward of Rs. 10,000 has been announced for his arrest. Giribala Singh has obtained anticipatory bail, but Samarth's bail application has been rejected by the court. Due to delays by the police in the investigation process, inconsistencies in CCTV footage, and missing evidence, severe public criticism is being leveled against the Indian legal and justice system.
