Toyota Corolla vehicles have undergone numerous recalls due to various safety defects over the past few years, indicating a strong focus on the company's quality control. These defects have been reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, as well as regional distributors like Al-Futtaim Motors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Models manufactured from 2023 to 2026, in particular, have largely faced this situation, with steering system defects, airbag malfunctions, and software issues in hybrid vehicles being among the main problems.

Among the major global recalls, a problem with cracks in the intermediate shaft of the steering system affecting 2023-2024 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid models was revealed in late 2024. It is reported that there is a high risk of accidents due to the steering wheel detaching. Additionally, in January 2025, a risk of the driver's airbag deactivating due to poor soldering in the spiral cable within the steering column of 2023 Corolla vehicles was identified. Considering older models, a short circuit defect preventing the passenger seat airbag from deploying in 2020-2021 models has also been reported previously.

Several specific issues have also emerged in hybrid vehicles, which extensively contain electrical and software systems. In September 2024, 2023-2025 Corolla Hybrid vehicles were recalled due to a software defect posing a risk of loss of power brake assist when turning the vehicle. More recently, in February and March 2026, 2026 Corolla vehicles were recalled due to incorrect markings on the headlights, and 2023-2025 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles were recalled due to insufficient volume of the pedestrian warning sound. These latest defects can be considered an extension of a series of historical large-scale recalls, such as the previously reported risk of Takata airbag explosions.

In parallel with global recalls, regional distributors are also implementing safety measures. Accordingly, in the UAE, Al-Futtaim has taken steps to inspect approximately 84 2024 Corolla and Corolla Cross vehicles under a Special Service Campaign due to a fuel tank-related defect and the potential for vapor leaks. In addition to Corolla vehicles, they have also recalled approximately 147 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicles manufactured in September 2024 due to a risk of front axle bearing failure.

All repairs, software updates, and parts replacements related to these recalls can be carried out completely free of charge through authorized Toyota dealers. Vehicle owners can verify if their vehicle belongs to these defective categories by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on official websites such as Toyota.com/recall, NHTSA.gov/recalls, or Toyota.ae, and accurate information can also be obtained by calling the relevant customer service numbers.
