The police have strongly advised all property owners to immediately inform the nearest police station in their area if any property or house is rented out to a foreign national. Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.

U. Wuttler made this special announcement.

Speaking at a press conference organized today (05) at the Government Information Department premises, he pointed out that information has now been revealed that some foreigners arriving in Sri Lanka on tourist visas are residing in such rented houses and engaging in various internet crimes and financial frauds.

For this reason, this new decision is being implemented with the aim of further strengthening national security in Sri Lanka and as a step to control large-scale financial crimes occurring in the country. Accordingly, the media spokesperson further stated that individuals providing their houses or accommodation facilities to foreigners should act with strict vigilance regarding this matter in the future.
