Before awakening to the morning sun's rays, a pure dream of serving the nation has tragically come to an end.

A female recruit undergoing basic training at the Medawachchiya, Poonewa Naval Base fell from the third floor of the camp's female dormitory around 6 AM yesterday (30th) and died.

The young woman who tragically died was an eighteen-year-old resident of Kidagalegama, Medawachchiya. Starting a new chapter in her life, she joined the Navy on March 10th this year. Her aspirations of serving the country in a naval uniform, under the number (Se/A WET 126758), began with training, but these hopes were shattered before even two months had passed.

Immediately after the incident, camp officials took swift action to admit her to Vavuniya Hospital. However, the complaint received by the police states that hospital authorities confirmed her life's breath had already mingled with the air by the time she was brought to the hospital.

Nevertheless, what lies behind the untimely demise of this young life remains a mystery. How did she fall from the third floor? It has not yet been definitively confirmed whether this was merely a tragic accident due to negligence, a suicide, or a murder. As of now, preliminary investigations have been launched by the police under the instructions of Assistant Senior Superintendent of Police Chinthaka R. Peiris of Kebithigollewa to uncover the truth behind it.

The body of the deceased recruit has currently been sent for a magisterial inquiry in Medawachchiya. Until law and investigations provide answers to this mystery, her last breath, which fell to the ground on that cold dawn, will silently echo across the Poonewa camp grounds.
