Wildlife officer killed by wild elephant attack in Wanathavilluwa

An employee attached to the Department of Wildlife Conservation, who was working in the Wanathavilluwa area, has died after being attacked by a wild elephant. The unfortunate person who died was 34-year-old Warnakulasooriya Amila Udara, a resident of the Wanathavilluwa area.

He had been working as a minor employee at the Wanathavilluwa Wildlife Office, and at the time of the incident, he had been assigned duties at the electric fence located between Wanathavilluwa and Thevanuwara.




This tragedy occurred when he was returning home with a few others after completing his night duties. The police state that the group, while walking, suddenly encountered this ferocious wild elephant.

According to eyewitnesses, when the elephant charged towards them, the deceased ran quickly from the spot to escape. However, the wild elephant chased after him, and in a panic, he fell to the ground, after which the elephant trampled him to death.




The Wanathavilluwa Police are currently conducting further investigations into this unfortunate incident.
