A crucial order in the trial concerning the uncle of 'Bako Saman', an organized criminal and drug trafficker who was arrested in Indonesia and brought to this country, is scheduled to be announced on the 30th. Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. will decide whether to further prosecute Lakshitha Sri Dulaj, the uncle of Sadika Lakshani, who is currently out on bail, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Mr. Bodaragama announced this decision yesterday (21).

Here, the lawyers appearing for the suspect Lakshitha Sri Dulaj made a written request to the court, stating that there was insufficient evidence to further remand their client under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and therefore requested his release. However, the Colombo Central Crimes Division objected to this request, informing the court that further investigations regarding the suspect were ongoing, thus opposing his release.

Responding to the police's objection, the Chief Magistrate emphasized that merely stating that investigations are ongoing is not sufficient grounds to object to a suspect's release. Accordingly, he ordered the police to submit a detailed report containing the reasons for their objection to the court before the 30th. Lawyers Lakmal Ratnayake and Ashenika Nidumi Wijeratne appeared before the court on behalf of the suspect.

When the case was called, the suspect, who was produced before the court from remand prison, was further remanded until the next hearing date.

Meanwhile, Sadika Lakshani, the wife of Bako Saman, and her sister Deshanjani Lakshani, who were detained and questioned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and subsequently remanded, have now been released on bail. However, further investigations are ongoing against Sadika Lakshani and others on charges of violating the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, as well as the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
