Suspicion regarding the sudden death of the Koshhena mother of four

During the post-mortem examination regarding the sudden death of a thirty-three-year-old mother of four, residing in Handapangoda, Koshena area, Dr. Sandakan Waduge, the Specialist Judicial Medical Officer at Horana District General Hospital, took steps to send parts of her body to the Government Analyst for further examination. The deceased has been identified as a woman named Selvarajan Nishanthi.

The inquest into her death was conducted by Mr. Sumedha Gunawardena, the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths at Horana District General Hospital.




Arimugam Dharmadas Kumara, the current partner of the deceased woman, giving evidence at the inquest, stated that she was readmitted to the hospital due to an abdominal ailment that occurred about five days after returning home from childbirth. He stated that when he went to the hospital to check on her the following afternoon, she had passed away. He further testified that he, who earns a living through casual labor, met her while working at a poultry farm in the Yatavatura area. Although she initially stated that she was a resident of Hatton and had no one, it was later revealed that she was a married woman and had two sons and a daughter.

The two had been living together for about a year, and subsequently, the partner had taken the three children into their home to care for them. She passed away after giving birth to their first child, who was also her fourth child, a baby girl, on April 1st last year (2026.04.01) and returning home in normal condition. During this inquest, Palayanchi Selvarasu, the father of the deceased woman, also gave evidence regarding his daughter's death.




Following the death of this woman, her three children from a previous marriage were refused by their legal father. Consequently, after the three children were presented to the Horana Magistrate's Court, Horana Chief Magistrate Mrs. Lakmini Vidanagamage ordered them to be placed under probation.
