With the festive season approaching, a large number of people are travelling to their hometowns, and to control the potential traffic congestion on the roads, the police have launched a special program. Concurrently, special inspections have been initiated to identify drivers who operate vehicles on the expressway system at excessive speeds and in a reckless manner, posing a threat to others.

Deputy Inspector General of Police W.P.J. Senadheera, who is in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, revealed this while participating in a discussion with a private television channel regarding accident prevention. He pointed out that operations to identify vehicles violating laws using CCTV camera footage are currently underway.

Furthermore, the Deputy Inspector General added that steps have been taken to deploy additional police officers around expressway entry points to control this situation. He emphasized that strict legal action would be taken against individuals driving dangerously and violating road rules, regardless of their status.

He reminded that both drivers and pedestrians must equally and responsibly follow the necessary precautionary measures to prevent potential road accidents. Meanwhile, a new WhatsApp number has been introduced for the public to directly submit video footage of road rule violations to the authorities. Accordingly, the public can provide this information to the police via the number 070 4755600.
