A special low-floor bus service, prioritizing the transportation needs of persons with disabilities, was launched today (21) as a pilot project. Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Mr. Bimal Ratnayake, along with several other ministers and dignitaries, participated in this inaugural event held at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre.
This program has been launched based on the current government's policy vision of 'A country that ensures equal opportunities and human dignity for all'. This step, implemented with a financial investment of Rs. 430.7 million, can be described as another unique project launched under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' program.
Under the initial phase, this bus service is scheduled to operate from Makumbura to Colombo, and with the aim of providing an efficient service to passengers, it has been limited to only 07 selected bus stops. Additionally, a new mobile application (Mobile App) designed to make transportation easier for passengers traveling on these buses was also introduced concurrently with this event.
