Premalal Jayasekara, also known as 'Choka Malli', a former Member of Parliament for the Ratnapura District, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Nuwara Eliya Police. He was arrested on charges of threatening and intimidating a group of people in the Nuwara Eliya area by brandishing a firearm and making death threats, and illegally possessing a pistol without a valid license.




According to police information, the incident occurred when the former MP was on a tour in Nuwara Eliya with some of his family members. There, they got into an an argument with another group of people who had come from the Avissawella area for a tour in Nuwara Eliya, and after the heated exchange of words escalated, Mr. Premalal Jayasekara threatened the said group by brandishing the pistol he had in his hand.

Following a complaint made to the Nuwara Eliya Police by the aggrieved party regarding this incident, officers immediately acted and arrested the suspect former MP. The Police Media Spokesperson's Office also confirmed that a police team, including Chief Police Inspector Ravindra Premalal, the OIC of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Nuwara Eliya Police, carried out this arrest.




Further investigations have revealed that the license issued by the Ministry of Defense for the pistol taken into police custody from the suspect has already expired in the year 2025. The Nuwara Eliya Police are continuously conducting investigations into the incident, and the arrested suspect former MP is scheduled to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court.
