If a mother's own family, who should provide her shelter, behaves brutally against her on the street, where are we heading as a society? This shocking news came to light after an inhumane video of a woman being cruelly beaten on the street in Gokaralla, Medaland area on the 16th of last month rapidly circulated through social media.
Gokaralla Police, who immediately acted on the incident, arrested nine suspects who had fled the area last Sunday (19), and the fact that some of them were her own blood relatives has deeply shocked the entire society. The tearful words of the mother who faced the incident reveal a horrific tragedy. As she told the media, their journey home after attending a New Year's party was obstructed by her own sister's son. As soon as he deliberately jumped in front of the car and stopped it, a group of people armed with iron rods and swords began to brutally assault them. The most severe pain she experienced was not just physical injuries; her own eldest son, whom she carried for ten months and nurtured, dragging her by her hair and beating her while pulling her along the street, tore her heart to pieces. She further revealed that her sister's husband, dressed in a red shirt, also brought a stick and brutally assaulted her, her husband, and their other daughter who was in the car, dragging them out of the vehicle.
In this family dispute, relatives and the son jointly assaulting a mother on the road in such a manner is an extremely unusual and tragic situation. According to preliminary police investigations, the root cause of this conflict is a long-standing dispute among family relatives. However, no one has yet revealed what alleged mistake or harmful behavior on her part could have provoked such a low and brutal assault on her own mother.
The mother, who contacted Swarnavahini channel, stated the following:
"We went to a New Year's party. After it was over, we came home. We stayed there for about an hour and a half, wanting to eat and then leave.
As we were coming home, on the way, her elder sister's son, he was the one who jumped in front of the car. He jumped into the middle of the road. Even though he saw the vehicle coming, he didn't move aside. He stood in front of the car, near the bonnet. As soon as my husband braked and stopped the car, suddenly, a group rushed out with iron rods and swords and started beating us relentlessly.
They dragged me out and beat me severely. My eldest son pulled me by my hair and assaulted me. He dragged me by my hair and also hit my husband. My other daughter was also inside the car. Then what they did was, they pulled everyone else out of the car and dragged them on the road, brutally assaulting me.
These incidents have been video recorded on phones. I filed a complaint about this at the Gokaralla Police Station. The police came on the same day and made a report.
It was that eldest son who assaulted me. The eldest son was the one who pulled me by my hair and hit me. My sister's husband, the one wearing a red t-shirt, came with a stick to hit me. They were the ones who hit me the most. So, my sister's husband and the eldest son were the ones who dragged me on the road and assaulted me. Many people were there.
Although the mother, who sustained serious injuries from the assault, has now recovered and returned home after receiving hospital treatment, the police are still conducting extensive investigations into the incident.
The physical wounds will heal with time; however, the ground where a mother's blood fell, after being cruelly beaten by her own child's hands on the street, will undoubtedly remain as an eternal testament to the declining humanity in our society.
