The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has strictly informed all school principals across the island to prevent excessive spending on various festivals and celebrations organized within schools. Ministry Secretary Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa emphasized the necessity of implementing such programs in a very simple and low-cost manner, without imposing any additional financial burden on parents.
The Ministry has received reports that a large amount of money is being wasted on such celebratory events held at the school level recently. The Secretary points out that although proper instructions were given regarding this matter on previous occasions, some school authorities have organized such events disregarding those instructions and recommendations.
Accordingly, maintaining financial discipline in all school activities from now on has been made mandatory. Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa has further ordered that all relevant activities must be carried out in full compliance with Circular No. 54/2023 issued by the government regarding school financial management, as well as all other financial circulars and regulations.
