It is reported that vehicle registration activities are currently experiencing significant delays due to administrative weaknesses and technical system errors within the Sri Lanka Department of Motor Traffic.

One-day services, which typically take a single day to complete, are now taking approximately a week, creating a situation where both vehicle purchasing consumers and vehicle importers are facing severe crises and inconveniences.

In light of this situation, the Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers' Association points out that the government must intervene immediately and provide prompt solutions to this problem. Otherwise, stakeholders warn that delays in registration could severely hinder the recovery process of the vehicle industry, which is currently showing signs of revival. They have also submitted data on current market behavior to the authorities.

Although the relaxation of vehicle import restrictions created a significant demand for motor vehicles in the market, recent reports confirm a noticeable decline in that demand. In such a context, this series of events further emphasizes the essential need to maintain a high level of efficiency in state institutions to successfully address the current trends in the country's vehicle market.
