A complaint has been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against veteran beautician Mr. Chandimal Jayasinghe regarding the organization of a New Year festival that severely insults Sinhala culture and heritage. This complaint was filed on the 24th of last month by a group of representatives from organizations such as the Astrologers' Expert Committee and the Sinhala Protection Alliance, concerning the celebration held under the name 'Royal Sinhala New Year Festival'.
A delegation led by Mr. Ravishanka Senanayake, National Organizer of the Astrologers' Expert Committee, and Mr. Suriya Siddha Ratnayake, President of the Sinhala Protection Alliance, participated in filing this complaint. Through their complaint, they pointed out that serious damage has been caused to Sinhala culture by promoting immoral games, such as making young men drink beer from bottles held under young women's armpits and making them eat buns placed on their stomachs, as national sports.
The complaint further requested the CID to conduct a comprehensive investigation into non-governmental organizations attempting to promote such indecent activities as national sports. Mr. Ravishanka Senanayake, National Organizer of the Astrologers' Expert Committee, emphasized that this is also an extremely serious offense according to the charters Sri Lanka has entered into with UNESCO.
A senior CID official confirmed, when inquired about the matter, that investigations have already commenced based on this complaint filed by the relevant organizations.
