Veteran journalist and former Editor-in-Chief of 'Divaina Irida Sangrahaya', Mr. Anura Solomons, passed away today (10) at noon. He was 66 years old when he bid farewell to his life's journey while receiving treatment in the cardiac intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital due to a sudden heart attack.




Initially admitted to a private hospital due to a sudden cardiac condition, he was later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.

Mr. Anura Solomons, who received his school education from St. Mary's College Kegalle, Dharmapala College Pannipitiya, and St. John's College Nugegoda, began his media career as a trainee reporter for the 'Irida' newspaper published by Multipacks.




Subsequently, he joined the 'Divaina' newspaper, where he served as the Business Editor and Foreign News Editor within its editorial board. Marking the pinnacle of his professional life, he was later appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of 'Divaina Irida Sangrahaya'. Having written editorials for the Divaina newspaper for over two decades, he was also a talented feature writer who succeeded in creating a unique and distinctive style in modern newspaper editorial art.

Mr. Solomons, who received training in journalism from several foreign countries, also participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program offered by the U.S. Department of State. Under this program, he traveled across five states in America, engaging in extensive study on conflict resolution.



In addition to his work in the media field, he also served as a political advisor to former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe. Furthermore, he was involved in authorship and is the writer of the book 'Loka Vinashaye Aththa Kathawa' (The True Story of the End of the World).

Mr. Anura Solomons, who was married to veteran journalist Mrs. Nishani Dissanayake, was the loving father of two children, Isuru and Yasodara.
